Gratitude and Respect for the OLC Era — And How to Migrate Your Old Flights to WeGlide

Regarding migrating flights we have a helpful tip for you, but first, we want to take a moment to share our thoughts on the OLC.
📮 We're sure you have friends who are asking the same questions. “How do I migrate my flights to WeGlide?” Feel free to share this newsletter with them using the link below ⬇️

Since the beginning of September, it's been public that the Online Contest (OLC) will cease operations at the end of the year. The OLC themselves wrote:
Founded on the occasion of the 1999 World Gliding Championships in Bayreuth, the Online Contest (OLC), the volunteer-run portal for sport-oriented gliding, is now coming to an end after 27 years.
Even though we've been on our own path with WeGlide for the past few years, we want to make clear that the OLC has had a strong influence on our team. We grew up with the Online Contest. It inspired and motivated us to constantly improve our gliding skills.
We are incredibly grateful to the Online Contest, Reiner Rose, and all his companions that we began gliding at a time when the OLC was already a given. We would never have been so dedicated to cross-country soaring or learned to appreciate XC so much. And we would never have had such a steep learning curve.
What seems trivial to us today was a true pioneering achievement in the early days of the OLC, laying the foundation for all the things we value so much in gliding today. That's why we believe we should all see the OLC as a resounding success story. We are even more touched that Reiner Rose sees us as a worthy successor. He wrote in the OLC magazine:
In my opinion, 'WeGlide' has become an absolutely legitimate and competent successor to the OLC, especially because it is equipped with perfect IT skills from the get-go. I am happy to give the appreciation you have shown for the OLC back to the 'WeGlide' team. Good luck to 'WeGlide' in the future.
Just what the OLC gave our team so much, we want to inspire future generations. We hope they will ignite the same passion for gliding that the Online Contest did for us. We look forward with respect and excitement to the task that lies ahead.
Here's How to Get Your Old Flights onto WeGlide
Given the recent news, we've been getting a lot of questions about how to migrate old flights. Luckily, someone from the gliding community has taken the time to build a tool that makes it easy to upload all your old flights to WeGlide, even including your comments. The tool is called olc2weglide.nl ⬇️

Since olc2weglide is currently under heavy use, you may experience some issues with large amounts of data. Our tip: try uploading your flights year by year (Season 2007, Season 2008, ...). It pays off to be patient. 🙏
The Bitterwasser Cup is Now on WeGlide
After many successful years, the organizers have made a forward-looking decision. Starting now, the competition will be hosted on WeGlide. The winners will be chosen based on the Junior Free ranking (with the starting point in Europe).
We are excited to emphasize that the prize is not exclusively for German juniors. There are young talents in so many countries who deserve to prove their skills in Namibia. Now you have your chance!
You can upload your flights from Poland, France, the UK, Spain, etc.—it doesn't matter. In theory, a junior from, let's say, Australia or the USA could even upload flights from Spain (for example, during a gliding holiday in Fuentemilanos) and win the Bitterwasser Cup. We are very excited to see what creative approaches we will see in the coming years.
